Nutritional Values

​Bison meat is sought for because of its proportion of nutrients to caloric value. Containing healthy amounts of protein and amino acids, as well as B vitamins, Selenium, Zinc, Phosphorus, Iron, and Niacin. This meat is a healthy alternative recommended by Canada's Food Guide because it is considered a great source of lean protein, contains one of the best omega-3 to omega-6 ratios, and can fight inflammation and support and strong immune system.

Nutritional Benefits to Women and Children

Women require a higher intake of iron than men because of blood loss during menstruation. Since bison meat is an excellent source of iron, it would be beneficial and provide a sufficient source of iron. Similarly, during pregnancy, women need even more of each nutrient to feed both themselves their baby, therefore making bison meat very beneficial for women whilst pregnant or not pregnant.

Environmental Benefits

Aside from benefits to human nutrition, bison can support the environment. Bison prefer to eat grasses over flowers, which in turn creates habitats for insects that live on pollen. When bison expel dung, it acts as a natural fertilizer. In addition, when dung is pushed into the soil, it provides additional beneficial fungi and bacteria to the soil. Dung also provides a habitat to other microorganisms and insects.
